The Jeering Episode

This image was created in the abandoned power station that supplied power to medical buildings that at one time belonged to the Women's Medical College of Philadelphia. The title refers to a recorded event in 1869 when a group of women attending WMCP where verbally abused and harassed by male medical students while they attended a lecture clinical at Pennsylvania Hospital. Although outlets that reported the incident and the men's behaviors as "un-gentlemanly" it was a harsh reminder of the trials women face even today in the medical field, as well as countless other professions. The walls in the image display a variety of graffiti, an art scene that is prominently male driven. However, the viewer is able to clearly see the tag "MYE" who is a woman artist.
