The battles ahead...
In this piece, which is a self portrait, the figure is meant to be readying herself for larger battles to come in life...eyes to the future and trying to be prepared for whatever may come. We are, however, usually unprepared for facing the daily small battles... blindly getting through day after day. My thinking here is that we often prepare so well for the worst, yet we don't prepare as well for what happens to us on a day to day basis...the general wearing down through repetition, monotony and the small things life throws at us. It's a bit like the saying "Death by a thousand cuts...".
This piece was sculpted in clay and cast in Hydrocal. It was made in 2023.
