I posed for this piece with a self timer, and then the painting was created in thin layers over the space of several weeks. I also gave a lot of thought to which plants to include and their significant symbolism.

This piece was an exploration of my healing and growth process after leaving a cult, purity culture, and an abusive, controlling childhood - a reclaiming of my body, and a showcase of what could grow if I shone a light into dark and broken places.
